Violence and harassment are widespread and harmful phenomena in the world of work, leading to a range of serious consequences, from serious physical and mental health problems to career failure.
In response to this problem, in June 2019, the International Labour Organization (ILO) adopted the Violence and Harassment Convention (No. 190) and its accompanying Recommendation (No. 206). This document enshrines the right of everyone to a working environment free from violence and harassment.
Violence and harassment in the workplace not only threatens the physical and mental well-being of workers, but also undermines the fundamental principles of dignity, respect and equality in the workplace.
Trade union representatives play an important role in identifying and ultimately eliminating these harmful phenomena in the workplace.
