On December 18, President of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia Elen Manaseryan hosted ILO delegation led by Director General of the International Labor Organization Gilbert Houngbo, who arrived in Armenia to participate in the first International labor conference in Armenia.
Welcoming the guests and highlighting the Conference held in Yerevan on the topic “Promoting social justice: the future of work in the current period,” the President of the CTUA thanked the ILO for its continued support of the CTUA initiatives and expressed hope for further cooperation between the Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia and the International Labor Organization in favor of the protection of workers’ rights in Armenia. The meeting was also attended by young trade unionists from the CTUA Youth and Equality Commissions, who were given the opportunity to discuss youth and equality issues with the ILO Director-General through a questions and answers.
“Today I am here in the building of the Trade Union Confederation to hear about existing problems and discuss new ways of further cooperation,” said Gilbert Houngbo, Director General of the International Labor Organization, welcoming the meeting participants.
During the conversation, problems existing in the world today, the role of trade unions and the issues of capacity building were also touched upon. Social, economic and humanitarian issues of forcibly displaced people from Nagorno-Karabakh were also discussed, including issues of protecting labor rights and employment. Elen Manaseryan thanked ACTRAV ILO and personally Mr. Houngbo for the support provided to forcibly displaced people from Nagorno-Karabakh.
