At the initiative of the International Labor Organization, April 28 is celebrated annually as World Day for Safety and Health at Work, the purpose of which is to promote the prevention of accidents and occupational diseases in the workplace.
The theme of World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2024 is “The Impact of Climate Change on Safety and Health at Work.”
Climate change has a significant impact on the workplace, especially on worker safety and health. Occupational hazards resulting from climate change include excessive heat, ultraviolet radiation, air pollution, major industrial accidents, increases in infectious diseases, and increased exposure to chemicals.
Ensuring healthy and safe work for workers should be aimed at strengthening and maintaining the physical, psychological and social well-being of workers, protecting them from risks that have a negative impact on health.
The use of occupational safety and health systems in the workplace is beneficial not only to employees, but also to the economic development of the organization, since each accident at work, as a consequence, leads to large financial costs, many times greater than the provision of a healthy and safe working environment.
The Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia joins the initiative of the International Labor Organization dedicated to the World Day of Safety and Health at Work and believes that in order to effectively ensure healthy and safe working conditions, public policy should be aimed at preserving the life, health and safety of workers, since healthy and safe working conditions are among the essential components of decent work.
