The members of the Council of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia (CTUA) held a meeting with Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Arsen Torosyan to raise and discuss priority issues related to the protection of workers’ rights.
During the meeting, representatives of the CTUA presented the existing challenges in the labor sector, paying particular attention on cases of violations of workers’ rights, inadequate occupational safety conditions, and the limited practice of implementing collective agreements. It was emphasized that the effective protection of workers’ interests is possible only with the active participation of strong and independent trade unions.
The members of the Council of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia highlighted the importance of developing the institution of social dialogue and noted that tripartite cooperation between the state, trade union, and employer should be practical rather than merely formal in nature. It was also noted that it is necessary to ensure the full involvement of trade unions in the development and implementation of labor and social policies.
CTUA representatives also raised issues related to the implementation of labor legislation, emphasizing the need to strengthen supervisory mechanisms, introduce effective tools for the protection of workers’ rights, and enhance the role of the labor inspection system.
In turn, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Arsen Torosyan presented the ongoing reforms in the sector and the Ministry’s approaches aimed at developing the social protection system and promoting employment. He emphasized the importance of cooperation with trade unions and expressed readiness to continue constructive dialogue.
At the end of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their readiness to deepen cooperation, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the protection of workers’ rights, ensuring decent working conditions, and promoting social justice.
