On April 18 2023 Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia hosted Maria Helena Andre, Director of the Bureau of Workers' Activities (ACTRAV) of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and Head of the Department of Workers' Activities for Europe and Central Asia of the ILO Sergeus Glovackas. The meeting was attended by the leadership of the CTUA, presidents of the branch republican unions of the CTUA and representatives of the permanent commissions of the CTUA.
The president of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia Elen Manaseryan, welcoming the participants, noted that the visit of the Director of the Bureau of Workers' Activities of the ILO, Maria Helena Andre, is considered an exceptional event, as this is the first high-ranking official of the ILO to visit Armenia.
The participants of the meeting discussed the current state and problems of social partnership, as well as issues related to the ratification by the Republic of Armenia of the main ILO conventions No. 155, 187 regarding healthy and safe working conditions and the implementation of the ratified conventions, issues of the involvement young workers in trade unions and increasing the effectiveness of their activities.
Sergius Glovackas emphasized that the ratification of ILO conventions by states is considered the first step, which must be followed by their full implementation.
The presidents of branch republican unions of the CTUA noted that in the border communities of the Republic of Armenia, the basic rights of workers, including the right to life, are violated, since the Azerbaijani aggression and ongoing military incidents threaten the safety of workers, in particular workers in agriculture and the mining industry.
The participants also discussed directions and opportunities for further cooperation with the ILO.
Summing up, Maria Helena Andre noted that within the framework of this visit she will have meetings with representatives of the RA government and the RA National Assembly, where she will present the issues raised by the participants of this meeting.
