The Trade Union Confederation of Armenia (СTUA), with the financial support of the International Labor Organization (ILO), held a training course on organizing workers in the informal economy on March 20-23, 2025 in Tsaghkadzor for trade union activists of the branch republican organizations that are members of the TUCA.
The main course was conducted by Kristina Krupavičienė, Chairperson of the Confederation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Lithuania “Solidarumas”.
The four-day training was also attended by ILO Regional Labor Coordinator Gocha Alexandria, Gender Equality and Non-Discrimination Specialist at the ILO Budapest Office Ozge Berber, ILO National Coordinator Nune Hovhannisyan and President of the CTUA Elen Manaseryan.
CTUA Deputy Prersident Tiruhi Nazaretyan presented the informal economy in Armenia, the current situation and problems.
The participants were also introduced to the RA legislation regulating this sector, ILO Convention No. 189 and other international documents.
The President of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia presented the situation of social partnership in the Republic of Armenia, current problems and recent achievements of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia.
The participants learned organizational and communication skills through group work and role-playing games, and learned about the experience of Lithuanian trade unions.
At the end of the course, the working groups presented their ideas for organizing the future work of homeworkers, construction workers and workers in the agro-industrial sector. In the coming months, the participants will try to organize workers in the above-mentioned sectors of the informal economy.
